1:06 Film buff fact: Charles Crichton ... the very same as in the "A fish called Wanda": One man, whose life's work spreads from the editing room with the legendary H.G.Wells here to co-writing and directing the box office hit, that re-defined british comedy, as John Cleese pointed out in a documentary.

Well, the first 26 minutes has been the dullest you can imagine. It's just commercials and cliches. Also, if they didn't have the most unnecessary narrator, it would have been about 20 minutes long in total. Appearances from Warren Beatty, James Coburn, Edward Asner, Warren Oates.

The only thing missing from this presentation is a shot of that little girl who played Rhonda in "The Bad Seed" getting shot by a Martian laser, but maybe they couldn't afford her at this point.

My father was 30 years old when War of the Worlds played. There was no rampant terror or people "freaking out". That was a myth that came along later. People had common sense. They knew it wasn't real. But the truth doesn't make a good enough You Tube video for the kids, so they keep making their videos, lying about what really happened, so kids of today think that people back then were stupid enough to think aliens were real.

This is wonderful that the lady who played Milli is still around. Mater of fake Iam watching this movie right know. Awesome .

I chiefly remember Alexander Scourby as the narrator of the National Geographic t.v. specials. He also starred in an episode of THE TWILIGHT ZONE.

Murrow's contention about the sophistication of 1957 may or may not have been correct.Still,those people in 1938 were less gullible than the people of today who still believe in safe and effective,the honest 2020 election and the bogus birth certificate.

The babysitter is turning 80 this year. She was just right for Joe Biden then.

Those guys at the bar who mentioned that they were only about 50 miles from Grovers Mill....I realize that this was in 1938 and that this is just a fictional play....but I would have thought that even in 1938 that these guys would know the towns in the area and know that there was no Grovers Mill. Oh well. I suppose that I am a little late with my observation and that it would be useless to try and contact Orson Welles to let him know....LOL...!!! Edit: I just read in the comments that there actually is a Grovers Mill....I guess I need to apologize to those guys at the bar....LOL..!!

My mom grew up in the 1940's and she loved these shows!

I would suggest the owner of this channel update this copy and check the other movies as much better quality prints exist all over the internet now. might want to check the internet archive for excellent copies so long as they can be uploaded here without copyright problems. But thank you for taking the time years ago when this was considered a good print...and they upload much faster now than they used to.

Hello, just thought you'd like to know that back then , at that time , howdie dooty was one of the only kid shows on followed by the lone ranger. So when kids heard the song on our little 12 inch tv screens , we all went running to the sound , with Great joy. Thanks for putting this up , really was a hoot to see it again after 65 years. (just showing it to my granddaughter)

It’s fun to read all the comments. I’m 80 now and I played Millie, the babysitter. I didn’t realize until years later when I saw it at The Paley Museum how many of the actors became stars. I was 13 and it interesting I didn’t have a crush on Warren Beatty who was 20. I guess I was too young and innocent. He’s probably one of the few of us who is still alive.

First saw this as a 10yr old on holiday in a smoky caravan park with black and white CinemaScope ,takes me back to being a family again ,as an older person now miss all who have now passed /great movie for the time x

Its crazy was an absolute rip off...of Johnny Carsons Tonight show. You can obviously do the same format....but this was just...lets do The amercian Tonight Show.
